Medallion Moulding

Currently working on a project locally here in Columbia.  This piece is from the last structure built in the city with the onset of WWII.  Once this project was originally completed all building supply materials were ordered to go toward the war effort and the construction stopped in Columbia for a few years.  This is actually a sad project to be working on, the individuals hired on the project to “restore” the cracks in the original plaster ceiling caused this beautiful piece to lose its key and bindings and completely fall to the ground.  Instead of repairing the cracks in the ceiling, they decided to put up a layer of sheetrock to hide the original historic fabric.  Integrity, people! Integrity!  The homeowners decided to hire us to come in and repair the work on the medallion instead of buying a plastic piece from Lowe’s, as the contractors originally were pushing for.  I wonder how often instances like these occur, I would like to live in my own little bubble and pretend that it doesn’t actually happen that often.
