The Byrd

Spent the past weekend up in Richmond, VA and was introduced to one of the loveliest buildings I’ve ever experienced.  The 1300 seat Byrd Theatre was built in 1928 and stands as one of America’s grandest and almost entirely unaltered theaters still in operation today.  The intricate architectural detailing is carried out in the more flamboyant Rococo style, with much of the plaster work adorned by gold-leafing.  Didn’t have time to see any films but the view inside in itself was enough for me…
