Franklin, TN or NC if you will…

Last week Jean and I headed up to Franklin NC for the largest rock and gem show on the East Coast.  Not to be confused with Franklin, TN…minor details.  Anyways, as Jean and I figured out which state we were supposed to be in we began to make our way up to the mountains of North Carolina.  Tucked away is a little city called Franklin that attracts loads of gem and rock dealers from around.  I finally got to meet Jimmy, Jean’s main crystal “guy” as well as John, the man who “lives in the rivers of FL”.    Needless to say these types of shows bring the folks out of the woodwork.  But wow was it interesting to hear their stories and to learn about how they mine, or dive, or root around for all of these precious and semi-precious gems.  I learned that the precious stones, such as rubies and emeralds and diamonds aren’t all that expensive to buy…it’s the process of sanding and polishing these stones that causes them to be so expensive.    Lots of interesting finds to say the least…
